Paul was elated by the people in Berea. Yes, they liked to listen to his teaching but they understood that it was their responsibility to go to the Bible and decide whether, or not, what he said was true. Paul said that it was the truth that was true and it had nothing to do with the eloquence of the speaker. He said, if an angel of light or even if he Paul himself came and told them a different gospel, that would be evil. In first John 4: 1, he says, “beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: Because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

We listen to teachers on TV, radio, the pulpit, in Sunday school classes or at seminars and want them to do all our studying and thinking for us.

We are to STUDY to show ourselves, approved unto God, workmen that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

We are to move on from baby formula to savoring the deeper word of righteousness. We are to advance to where we can teach others and not to always need basic teaching. Hebrews 5;12-14 /I Corinthians 3:1,2

We need to be instructed in the word and heap it up in our hearts that we might not sin against God. Psalm 119:11 We are to delight in the word, meditating on it day and night Psalm 1. This will allow us to bring forth ideas from the past and see new applications in the present. Matthew 13:52

I need to get up each morning having eyes to see wondrous truths from God’s word. I need to have an open heart to hear. I need to see truths that reprove me and shake up my world view and not say, “yes, but”. Then I will be able to share with others Gods treasure of useful ideas. Sharing just the right ideas at just the right moment.Isaiah 50:4

STOP and ask yourself. Do I know more about the Bible than about sports, or history, or science, or movies, or video games, or the news, or politics or any other area of knowledge? If I do not, then who’s opinions do I worthship, do I consider important? Jesus claimed to be the beginning, middle and end of all knowledge, the Logos. In Romans 1 it says that science should speak of him, Paul uses sports analogies to teach us how to live for Christ. ALL knowledge is vain if it does not point to Jesus, agree with him and help me understand him better
