PUT ON THE ARMOR

Put on the whole armor of God. OK, but what does it mean to put on the armor? I am so prone to read a verse and agree and move on without asking “what exactly am I supposed to do with this?” First remember the three fold response to EVERYTHING? That’s right THANKS, HELP, SHOW ME MY PART. So I thank you Lord for this valuable advice to put on my armor, I might need your help knowing what that means and then remembering to do it faithfully.

I can just hear my mother saying, as I was leaving the house, “Where do you think you are going dressed like that?” Maybe God thinks the same thing when his children head out without their armor on.

There are four pieces of armor to put on and two to pick up and wield. I put on the helmet of salvation the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, and the shoes of the preparation of the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:17   And take the helmet of salvation, I Timothy 5:8 and for an helmet, the hope of salvation

Ephesians 6:15  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Ephesians 6:14   Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth Ephesians 6:14  and having on the breastplate of righteousness;I Timothy 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; Isaiah 59:17   For he (GOD) put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. Obviously  I don’t have to go out and obtain a helmet or breastplate or belt our shoes. I already have them as a wonderful gift from my commander. No, I have to PUT THEM ON . God put on his helmet and breastplate in the old Testament when he went out to war. Whatever that means, he wants us to armor-up and join in the battle. I use this whole idea each morning as I head out into my life: I REMIND myself that I have these things (salvation, righteousness, truth, hope, the gospel) as gifts from God and need to REMEMBER them in the battle today. The devil loves to accuse me, cause me to DOUBT and FORGET that these gifts are mine from God and my job is to DECLARE to myself and to the devil and to thank God that I have salvation from the consequences of sin and from the power of sin and am equipped with the knowledge  and the hope  that my salvation is forever. I DECLARE that I live a life guided by truth, right and wrong, and can know how to live as I cry out in prayer all day “Show me your will”. When my heart starts to condemn me, I defend against the attack by DECLARING that the righteousness of God is mine I STEP OUT in faith, I believe God and love the brethren and the needy around me. I step out, being shielded from the roughness of encounters with life, by having my feet shod with a message of the good news that Jesus has overcome sin and death. Putting on,to me, means practically; to REMIND myself of these truths  DECLARE these truths THANK God that they are true and are mine  PICTURE how a (saved, righteous, truthfilled, saved, faithfilled) person should then live  STEP OUT to act-in-the-fact of these truths to move my body members according to this picture—equal and opposite to what I would have done if I acted in my own impulses  I am to also declare that I do not belong to the world or to works of darkness. I am also advised by God’s word to put on(remember, declare, thank God, picture, and act in): GODLY LOVE, EMOTIONS OF MERCY KINDNESS, A HUMBLE MIND, THE NEW MAN RENEWED IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS AND CREATED IN RIGHTEOUSNESS AND TRUE HOLINESS, CHRIST HIMSELF, THE ARMOR OF LIGHT  and PUT OFF THE WORKS OF DARKNESS AND THE OLD MAN AND ANGER, HATRED, FOUL LANGUAGE. REMEMBER: This is a key skill for me, since the devil can not take away my grace so focusses on getting me to forget.

Luke 22:19   And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

John 14:26   But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

I Corinthians 4:17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church. I Timothy 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. I Timothy 1:6  Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. II Timothy 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

II Peter 1:12,13,15  Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance. Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. II Peter 3:1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance Lamentations 3:21  This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. Proverbes 4:5  Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Psalms 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
