When the devil attacks, it is often useful to concede his
observation
but not his
conclusion.
For example, he will point out “you are too weak ” and then conclude that you might as well go ahead and sin, since you will just fall in the end”, OR,” try try try to be stronger” OR, “hate yourself for being a weakling”. The counter attack is not to deny my weakness, but to agree “without God I can do nothing” that’s pretty weak! BUT BUT BUT! I AM NOT WITHOUT GOD, and with him I can do all things. I can bear any trial and find the strength to not sin and to do the will of God. Philippians 4.13 ; I Corinthians 10.13
The devil will point out that I am either worthless ( or if he thinks I am really deluded) “you are actually pretty good.” In my case he sticks with the “worthless” approach. He will then conclude that I should hate myself, or try to earn worth or find someone to criticize so that I feel a little less worthless or to conclude that my good deeds are better than the average so I have indeed earned my worth and God will owe me a place of honor in heaven. The counter attack is to loudly proclaim with the apostle Paul that “It must be clear to all that I am the chief of sinners” 1 Timothy 1.15 and that all my acts of righteousness are as filthy rags. Romans 7.18. BUT I HAVE BEEN PURCHASED WITH AN INFINITE PRICE AND THEREFORE AM OF INFINITE WORTH THAT IS INDESTRUCTIBLE IN JESUS. Luke 12.7
The devil will point out that my future is shaky and insecure. He will then conclude that I should lay up treasure on earth, should push for more influence and power. The counter attack is to assert that I AM IMMORTAL WITH TREASURE IN HEAVEN, A MANSION JESUS HAS SPENT 2000 YEARS PREPARING (This universe only took 6 days)AND THAT I AM AN AWESOME BEING DESTINED TO BE THE BRIDE OF THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE!
