GUILT

People try to handle guilt by:

  • balancing it with blame or minimizing the wrong
  • promising to pay for their wrong
  • trying to balance it with good deeds
  • or by comparing with others whom they deem to be worse etc. etc.

They are puzzled by the guilt’s capacity to hang on and weigh them down and keep them up at night.

The only way to deal with guilt is to realize with the apostle Paul, that “this is a faithful saying and worthy of everyone accepting it- that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom Verle Bell is the worst.  (OK, you may put your name in there since each Christian needs to see that in real fact THEY ARE THE CHIEF)  I Timothy 1.15

Only when I admit that I am the worst, but that his grace is sufficient for all my sins, can I overcome the drag of guilt. When the accuser of the brethren (Rev 12.10) attacks me and says “who do you think you are? Don’t you remember you’ve done so and so?” Then I overcome him by saying, “Oh I’m certainly a lot worse than that, but I’ve been forgiven, washed in the blood of the Lamb, and accepted into the beloved, and all you can do is kill my body and I do not fear that. Rev 12. 11 I

I no longer need to fear that some new revelation will destroy me because whatever the past holds-MERCY is bigger than that! Whatever today holds GRACE is bigger than that! Whatever tomorrow holds, the Lord’s peace will reign!

LORD HELP ME TO CAST ALL THE CARE OF MY GUILT ON YOU WHEN THE DEVIL TRIES TO GET ME TO CARRY IT. I Peter 5.7
