I just revel in being one of God’s “peculiar” people.
1 Peter 4:4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
There are only two kinds of people on this planet. The ones who think we are strange because we do not wallow in sin and those whom we think are strange because they do wallow in sin. I am blessed when men revile me in Jesus’ name. Matthew 5 :11
I will be weird either to the world or to God. Judge for yourself, but who should I look weird to?
Sure there are christians who live in such a way that the world does not think that they are strange. I think that it is strange to say you believe certain truths and then not act accordingly? Woe to them when all men speak well of them! Luke 6:27
All “sane” Christians must act weird to the world or be weird to God.
Let your light shine in such a way that the watching world will think “Wow! there must be a God because people just don’t act like that! Matthew 5:16
The three types of “normal” people of the world:
1. If possible, don’t see any problems, wear blinders. If you see a problem, think “Not my problem, am I my brother’s keeper?” If you have to see and it is important to you then, rather than doing your part, blame others make excuses and bury yourself in trivia.
2. Ignore all my own problems by focusing on everyone else to a. control and mess with them, “I must be powerful because I can make you miserable and do what I control you to do” or “I must be OK because I can fix and help you.” Neither idea is true.
3. See the problems, care about the problems, get involved in the problems keep fussing with the problems, see only problems and burn out. (I love this group, just one step away from godliness, now just add grace.)
God’s ways and thoughts are not our thoughts, his ways are not our ways so if we begin to act in them we have to seem strange to the world.
Given all the power and wisdom and just plain weirdness of God shouldn’t we seem weird too. Being, “weirdly”, peaceful and passionate at the same time, caring and calm, striving and resting, hating sin and never having anger out of control, being engaged in the world but not having it engaged in us, fighting like crazy in the battle while resting and delighting in the sure victory, Weird!
The greatest of all insanities is to expect sanity in this crazy world.”1 Peter 4:12
Beloved concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, REJOICE!, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; (Now that’s weird!)
James 1:2 Count it all JOY dear brothers when you suffer under various trials.(Now that’s weird!)
That’s a command! I must rejoice
and revel in grappling with the effects of sin and in the never ending
chance to fight with it, empowered by God ,until he returns and sanity
finally wins out.
Be weird and find the insanity of
this world to be exactly what one would expect in a sin plagued planet.
Remain calm, the Lord is in control. Don’t water down the insanity in
order to feel hope, but rather look at it in all it’s awesome craziness
and use it at a measure of how much bigger is God’s wisdom and Grace.
Beware if all men speak well of you. When Peter preached, the world
concluded that he must be drunk. Paul turned the world upside down.
I love telling the people that I counsel. “You know what’s wrong with
you? You are entirely too NORMAL! It’s normal to be sick and peculiar to
be healthy. God’s ways are all peculiar. For his ways are not my ways,
neither are his thoughts my thoughts.
A paradox, a paradox, a most unusual paradox!
The first shall be last and the last shall be first, and often times the
easy road turns out to be the worst! If I should live then I must die.
God only knows the reason why, but if I take him at his word and test
this principle I’ll see, the principle is not absurd and life I’ll have
abundantly!
Who are most needed? The most important ones of all? Those who seem most feeble.
And those who seem to be the most, are really just the least.
If I would lead, then be a slave, I must see that I am worst if I would be the best.
Only those who know they’re weak will make it through the test.
Anything you think you own, will soon be owning you.
Often things which seem true, are not, and things that seem not, are.
By faith accepting that his way is best, when you don’t have a clue.
Either I will be weird or wayward, for godliness is always “weird”.
If I let God have his way with me, the world will think of me as crazy.
I know that I must be willing to die for the Lord but am I willing to be thought of as weird for the Lord?
GOD’S SUGGESTED WEIRDNESSES: “Live
in the present and invest no energy in worrying about tomorrow. Ponder
the positives, throw all your worries away casting them on Jesus,
delight in being yourself as God’s masterwork, put other’s ideas and
needs first, let go of rights, bless those who curse you, be a do-gooder
to those who are your do-badders, sing in grocery stores, delight in
the labors I have prepared for you, give to those who won’t or can’t
give to you, do tasks which no one will know who did it with more
enthusiasm than regular tasks.”
Dear Lord thank you for making me a one-of-a-kind, special, unique
masterpiece! Help me to delight in everyone else as one-of-a-kind,
special, unique masterworks, and let my light so shine that when people
see what You do through me they say, ” Wow, weird, there must be a God
after all!”
