Read the last chapter

My wife loves to read the last chapter of a novel to make sure that the heroin comes out okay on the other end. Then she can go back into the middle of the story and survive all the cliffhangers because she knows it turns out in the end. Who would want to read a story in which there were no cliffhangers? They lend color and excitement to the story. But who would want to be in a story where the cliffhangers end in permanent disaster?

It turns out, this is a wonderful technique. However, it all boils down to faith.do we actually believe what we say that we do?

One of the tools we use to lead others to salvation is to have them look at their view of the future. We then ask, “And then what?”, “And then what?” Of course, the final answer is that they turn to dust and so nobody will remember that they ever existed. The whole book of Ecclesiastes says that, apart from God, nothing counts.

We should ask the same question of ourselves as people of faith. “And then what?” We have so much better of an answer to this question. “Then I go to heaven and live for all eternity in God’s presence as a bride of Christ free from the presence and struggle with sin, doing exciting creative things, and getting to know him more and more for all eternity.”

Today’s current valley of loneliness, boredom, or cliffhangers is never walked alone. We get to walk through them with the author and finisher of our faith who will bring joy to the valley and glory to the cliffs and strength to hang on. Remember how he kept a good attitude as he walked his valleys? Who for the joy that was set before him endured such contradiction of sinners. What was that joy? YOU yes having US as his very own for all eternity!!

As a song by Brooke Fraser says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace. ” I also think that turning our eyes on the eternity with Jesus changes the whole complexion of our current situation.

So the next time we are overwhelmed, “like Peter,” with the waves and the wind, let us cast our fear on him by reminding ourselves “Oops, I forgot to ask the proper questions, first, “Who is standing beside me?” “What wonderful thing is Jesus up to?” Followed by “And after this then what?” He will then reach into the turmoil that is pulling us down, lift us back up out of the water, and help us walk on the water.

One reply on “Read the last chapter”

I love Jesus Christ with my whole heart because of HIS sacrifice for my sins. I love reading the final chapters to see how CHRIST wins the battle and war. It is amazing to know that we are on the WINNING SIDE! Amen and amen. It seems as though we are loosing the battle now, but satan wants us to believe that lie. I love that Romans chapter 8 says that we are more than Conquerors! Thank you for sharing this post today.
