The devil gets us to resent or ignore the here and now suggesting that our happiness is in the future, in a future fantasy where we have no work or responsibilities. As children, we resent chores and school and can’t wait till recess, weekends and Summer. As adults we continue to resent school work, regular work or chores. Then we pack the weekend so full that it is not enjoyable either.
If we learn to delight in the journey, in the here and now, then all of life and even all of eternity will be a delight. We can rejoice in being shown our need to grow and then rejoice in the growth. We can rejoice in the labor and in the finished work. We can rejoice in being busy and in quietness and confidence. We can rejoice in crowds or in being all alone with the Lord.
Take no thought for the morrow. Don’t worry about it or put our hope in tomorrow thinking,”I will buy and sell and get gain.” Today is the accepted time today is the day of salvation. Open your eyes and look at the ripe harvest all around you then ask the Lord of the harvest to push you out into harvesting. Today has enough negatives to keep us busy rejoicing in the challenge and the need to rely on the Lord in order to deal with them.
2 Corinthians 6:2 God says that he hears us in order to save us so that today is the accepted time today is the day of salvation.
I remember some wonderful advice from a radio preacher who advised me to limit my focus to issues that come naturally into my view, rather than borrowing trouble from around the world that I can do nothing about. He will than give me grace to seize these issues and revel in being his mouth and hands to deal with them.
So, by God’s grace, let me seize the moment and be really excited to yield my body parts to him to reach out to others. By his grace to savor the beauty of his creation and be filled with gratitude for his provisions and for the people he has put in our lives and mostly for the incredible job he has done on making me to be the right one for the task before me.
